In my current body of work, I explore the interplay between light, colour, and form, using the human face as a canvas to reflect on the fluidity of identity and our interconnectedness with the world around us.
Influenced by Rothko's use of colour to evoke emotion, I have been exploring colour theory to express intangible elements like fleeting connections, shared experiences, and the blurred lines between individuals and their environment.
Furthermore, I am fascinated by the interplay of light and shadow on the human face. The shadows play across features, creating abstracted, referential portraits that capture not just the physical likeness but the spirit of the moment. These shadows are representations of how our interactions and surroundings constantly reshape us. Each face is a layer, a piece of a larger whole, symbolising how our individual narratives are interwoven with those of others and with the environment that sustains us.
By overlaying and interweaving stylised faces, I aim to convey a sense of fluidity and the intricate relationships between individuals; how they merge, intersect, and coexist, illustrating the complex web of relationships that define us; whether with society or the natural world.
Using acrylic paintings, digital art, and mixed media, I explore these themes with colour as a channel for emotion and depth. My work invites viewers to explore the subtle connections that bind us to each other and to the natural world.
Ultimately, my current body of work is a reflection of the fluid, ever-changing nature of identity and the interconnectedness that defines our place in the world. It is an invitation to contemplate how we, as individuals, are part of a greater narrative; one that is constantly in motion and evolving with every interaction.
